Hampshire Healthy Steps is looking for enthusiastic and creative people to support us in our work. Our Volunteers are highly valued members of our team supporting us in the delivery of the Healthy Steps programme.
A wish to volunteer with families;
Good listening skills with a caring approach;
Patience and friendliness?
An open-minded ‘people person’ who is positive and encouraging;
Flexible in your approach with others;
Willing to be supervised by service staff and health visitors;
Able to keep a record of your hours and travel around your local area;
Happy to provide satisfactory references and for Barnardo’s to complete a DBS check before you start your role?
If you can answer ‘yes’ to all the above, then you are just the person we are looking for! We believe that volunteering plays an essential role in our work to transform the lives of vulnerable children and young people across the UK.
Hampshire Healthy Steps is a new service that offers group to families with 2 to 12 year olds across Hampshire. We offer advice, information and support about healthy eating, how to get more active, how to sleep well, and ways to keep our teeth healthy. Supporting the Family Health Coach with the delivery of the 6-step programme (with the opportunity to co-deliver)
Establishing trusting relationships with parents
Providing a listening ear and emotional support to parents
Adhering to Barnardo's policies and procedures at all times, including Barnardo's: Safeguarding; Equality, Diversity and - Inclusion; Health & Safety; Data Protection; Confidentiality; Recording policies and procedures.
Participating fully in training and supervision.
Volunteering within Barnardo's Basis and Values.
Reliable, punctual and trustworthy.
Approachable and welcoming.
The ability to communicate and engage with families.
Being non-judgmental and positive in their attitude to working with individuals from different backgrounds.
The ability to empathise with children, young people and families, who may be facing difficult times in their lives.
To be able to travel across an allocated locality within Hampshire.
Be able to give 3 hours per week.

As a Volunteer, you bring with you your own experience and general knowledge of your local community. In return, you can develop your skills and gain new experiences too.Not only could you make a difference to families and children in your area, you can boost your overall confidence and people-skills. It’s also a great way to make new friends.
During your first few weeks, our Volunteer Coordinator will arrange your induction training in Safeguarding, Equality and Diversity, and Professional Boundaries, as well provide you access to additional online training and development. You will receive regular supervision and support from the Hampshire Healthy Families team, who are always happy to help you on your volunteering journey!
