About Us

What we do

Hampshire Healthy Steps offers family-focussed, flexible, community-based support to help families with children aged 2 to 12 years get more active, sleep better, understand more about eating healthily and explore simple things that can help your family stay healthy.

We support families to set small, achievable goals so that children can have healthier childhoods through a 6-step course, which can be accessed by families via self or professional referral.

Sessions are run in the local community, online either in a group or as one-to-one support. Each session is designed to be relaxed and suitable for children to attend with parents/carers.

The programme can also be run in pre-existing groups and schools.

Why we do it

Barnardo’s and Hampshire County Council run the Hampshire Healthy Steps service to help families build healthier habits in response to rising local concerns about childhood obesity and low activity levels. With nearly a third of year-six pupils and one in five reception-aged children classified as overweight, and many children - especially in more deprived areas - struggling to achieve regular exercise, the programme provides evidence‑based, family-focused support to improve nutrition, physical activity, sleep, oral health and overall wellbeing. Delivered by a dedicated family health coach in local community venues, the service aims to give children the tools to develop lifelong healthy routines and to offer flexible, practical guidance that strengthens family health and connects them to wider community support.
